Founded in 1993, the primary core of this workshop and festival is acoustic pre-war (1920s and 1930s) country blues, and the African-American cultures, traditions and challenges that birthed them. This workshop gives attention to the musical styles and lives of musicians from various the Piedmont region on the Southeast coast, the Mississippi Delta and Hill Country, Louisiana and Texas. Differences in technique as well as how to get the proper sounds of out of your instrument are shared. The music is the primary focus of the multi-generational in-residence workshop week but included are discussions on the deeper story of the challenges Black musicians faced during the time this music was created as well as today.
