Over the past six years, Katya has become a television superstar after two beloved runs on RuPaul’s Drag Race (season 7 and All Stars 2), a viral comedy sensation thanks to her two wildly successful web shows with Trixie Mattel (“UNHhhh” and the Netflix-produced “I Like to Watch”), a NY Times best-selling author (Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood) and a recent podcast host (The Bald and the Beautiful). An undeniable force in the modern drag world and a self-described “tall creative young woman in her late thirties”, Katya will now stretch her talents into the music world with the November 13th release of her debut EP ‘Vampire Fitness’.
Words fail to fully describe the 5-song collection, which boasts an unrestrained creative insanity that feels undeniably Katya with its mind-obliterating irreverence, progressive electronic production, and tinges of her signature Russian flair.
It’s a maddeningly provocative journey including turns into dark industrial dance on “Ravioli” (a sound akin to the darker moments of Aphex Twin and Prodigy’s respective discographies), the Eurodance-leaning collaboration with Trixie Mattel “Ding Dong”, “ГЛАЗ” which unfolds as an uninhibited digital deconstruction delivered entirely in Russian and distorted wailing, the Alaska-assisted collaboration and first single “Come In Brazil” which will drop November 6th, and the spoken word piece “Be Your Own Dentist” that recites instructions for at-home, self-procedural dental care.
Of the EP, Katya said it’s “a dark and brooding international musical boat ride through the brain and mouth of famous cross dresser Katya. This brisk and beefy debut explores themes and topics such as eating food, dancing, having sex, relaxing, and DIY dentistry, all delivered in a variety of award-winning languages like Russian, Italian, Portuguese and English. With sexy, fly, hot and beautiful features from song-writing legends Alaska Thunderfuck and Trixie Mattel, it’s hard to believe it’s only 5 dollars. Wow!”
