Today, Chicago’s culture and hospitality powerhouse, 16 On Center, expands its roster of premier destinations with the launch of Elston Electric. In partnership with Logan Arcade, this exciting addition marks a major milestone for the Salt Shed, bringing the entertainment venue to full capacity just three years after opening. The brand new restaurant and bar debuts as part of the Salt Shed complex, which was recently named Best Concept on Billboard’s 2025 Top Music Venues list and earned multiple honors in this year’s Chicago Reader Awards.
Ahead of the official opening, Pollstar shared news of the Shed’s latest expansion - co-Founder of 16 On Center Bruce Finkleman told Pollstar, "Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that in just three short years, the Salt Shed would reach 100% occupancy—a full-on complex of fun under one (big) roof. With the grand opening of Elston Electric, in partnership with our good friends at Logan Arcade, you can now play your favorite arcade games at Elston Electric, grab a craft brew and burger at the Goose Island Pub, shop vintage and browse records, and sip a specialty cocktail at the newly opened, skyline-backed Three Top Lounge. And if you didn’t know, you can also catch a concert at the award-winning Salt Shed venue."
Perched at the corner of the Salt Shed, Elston Electric is a vibrant extension of the venue’s ever-growing ecosystem, sitting alongside Three Top Lounge, Goose Island Salt Shed Pub, and retail favorites Umbrella Vintage, Loud Pizza Records, Fret 12, and RISE. Equal parts tavern and arcade, Elston Electric delivers a variety of great food and nostalgic drinks at hard to beat prices, with a design aesthetic inspired by the Shed’s former life as the Morton Salt Building dating back to 1929, as it repurposes the factory’s boiler as its bar.
At the heart of Elston Electric is its carefully curated arcade, blending the best of vintage and modern gaming, and brought to life in partnership with Logan Arcade. Expect a lineup packed with cult classics like Skeeball, Pop-a-Shot Basketball and Air Hockey, as well as VR Motion games, Full Motion Driving Games, vintage and modern pinball machines, and 80s-90s video games like Tapper, Burgertime and more alongside rare gems like Beastie Feastie (one of just two available for public use), Hercules (the world's largest pinball game), and Tsunami Tsumo (the only playable version of the game in existence). With a mix of retro and cutting-edge hits, and redemption machines to score prizes, Elston Electric adds yet another distinctive feature to the beloved venue with an eclectic, family-friendly atmosphere. Whether you’re an old-school gamer, a pinball wizard, a history buff, or just someone looking for the next must-visit spot in Chicago, Elston Electric is where the action is.
For over 10 years, Logan Arcade has been the go-to destination for the best arcade experience in Chicago. It has won numerous awards, including Best Pinball Location in the US for three years running. Highlighted nationally in The New York Times, The Economist, and The Washington Post, as well as countless local publications, Logan Arcade has a reputation far and wide for the most exciting collection of meticulously maintained games in the city.
For over 30 years, the homegrown music and hospitality collective 16 On Center has been creating new neighborhood staples throughout Chicago. With over 15 independently operated locations, from Evanston to Hyde Park, and additional projects in New York City and beyond, their central mission remains the same: to treat every concept as community and every building as a link to living history. By restoring some of its most iconic landmarks, 16 On Center has helped shape Chicago’s cultural landscape by transforming once-abandoned buildings into state-of-the-art venues like The Salt Shed—now home to an expanding ecosystem of bars, restaurants, and retail. Their latest addition, Elston Electric, brings an entirely new dimension to the complex: a hybrid tavern-arcade offering great food, nostalgic drinks, and a curated mix of vintage and modern gaming.
From their first venue, The Empty Bottle, to the 9,000 total-capacity Salt Shed, 16OC has provided a platform for artists like Japanese Breakfast, Sturgill Simpson, Brandi Carlile, Angel Olsen, and many more—helping them grow while staying independent. Now with Elston Electric, they continue to evolve, blending history, hospitality, and entertainment into uniquely immersive spaces.
