Acclaimed singer/songwriter Amigo the Devil has released a brand-new song and video for “The Mechanic” today via Liars Club Records / Regime Music Group.
The single marks the second track from Amigo the Devil’s forthcoming album, Yours Until the War is Over, set to release February 23 – his most disarming and inspired collection of songs to date. Hauntingly soft strings and Spanish-style acoustic guitar complement lyrics that reflect on a broken relationship searching for a happiness that’s been lost to the painful realities of their time together. Bonded through both love and trauma, the lyrics are profound in both their depth and simplicity.
Like a house that’s on fire but you love how it feels,
So you throw in the memories to feed it.
The more you let go, the harder it is to leave.
“The song is in line with realizing your own flaws, but coming from the other side than previous single ‘Cannibal Within,’ where you are the one causing a lot of the imbalance,” explains songwriter and vocalist Danny Kiranos (a.k.a. Amigo the Devil).
Accompanying visuals for “The Mechanic” video reveal intimate insights behind the record’s genesis. Created in a basement bar-turned-studio in the middle of Tennessee, the video shows the bare-bones of his recording process – from scribbling lyrics on pages of a journal, to the natural dynamics with songwriting partner and guitarist David Talley, to experimenting with oddball percussion from his homemade recording den. The album’s first single “Cannibal Within” garnered praise from Consequence for its “disarming, lyrically uncompromising brand of dark folk.” Amigo the Devil embodies the truest form of an artist in his new work.
Yours Until the War is Over is the first studio album by Amigo the Devil that was entirely produced, recorded, and engineered in-house. The collaborative nature of the new recording process shines throughout. Kiranos’ songs serve as cinematic vignettes that thread together stories of the human condition, trauma bonding, and the method of using relationships for survival, whether by addiction, doubt, death, or narcissism. Yours Until
the War is Over is all heart, with no boundaries. It is an album to be experienced from beginning to end in order to recognize the perspective it offers.
