Platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and Gen Z pop king Conan Gray unveils a thrilling new single, “Killing Me,” out today via Republic Records/Universal Music Canada. Stream “Killing Me” HERE and watch the lyric video HERE.
On “Killing Me,” Conan said: “I wrote “killing me” while I was sick with the flu. It was a miserable time where I was both physically sick, but also super heartbroken over somebody. Hence, ‘you’re KILLING me.’ I think we all have those people who don’t treat us nearly well enough, but we just can’t seem to let them go. People who call you at 2AM, and who you know you shouldn’t pick up……but you do. “Killing Me” is for when you’re on your last limb begging this person to just please stop torturing your heart.”
For the track Conan teamed up with legendary producer Max Martin (The Weeknd, Adele, Ariana Grande) and the song's intro quickly erupts into an unforgettable synth-driven pop banger. Over an infectious groove, Conan sings about the push-and-pull of a relationship in which there is a fine line between love and hate. He airs his grievances to a fickle love interest: “Too busy deceivin’ and cheatin’ / And lyin’ and competin’ / To know how lucky you are.” But despite their inconsistency, Conan keeps coming back: “I can’t let go of your heart.”
“Killing Me” follows the recent fan favorite “Winner,” which has accumulated over 14.6 million Spotify streams since its release in August. The song drew widespread critical applause: Rolling Stone characterized it as “heart-wrenching,” and OnesToWatch signaled his coronation, “The king of all things indie pop has returned.” Meanwhile, UPROXX praised how “Conan Gray isn’t holding back in this era.”
“Winner” stood out as his second release of 2023, following the buzzing “Never Ending Song.” Thus far, the latter has garnered nearly 40 million global streams in addition to 5 million-plus YouTube views on the music video, and received acclaim from Billboard, Rolling Stone, UPROXX, and Vogue.
Recently, Conan graced the stage of the 2023 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park. Global Citizen is the latest in a series of epic festival appearances from Conan, including performances for nearly 300,000 people at Lollapalooza across Latin America, and almost 40,000 people at Outside Lands.
Earlier this year, Conan wore a custom Balmain look while attending the 2023 Met Gala. He quickly was named among the evenings “Best Dressed” by the likes of Vogue, Esquire, Teen Vogue, Insider, NPR and many more.
