Factory International is the organisation behind Manchester International Festival (MIF) and the landmark new cultural space, Aviva Studios, which opens its doors in 2023. The Music Manager is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all Factory International commercial and own promoted music events, and will act as the central point of contact for all incoming promoters and artists.
The post is responsible for managing the diary booking of all commercial music events ensuring that the dates, venue spaces and income are maximised to achieve the budgeted income. The role will also entail researching the widest range of commercial promoters to engage with the venue.
THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE MUSIC MANAGER ROLE INCLUDE
- To act as the first point of contact for all music enquiries for Factory International. To provide efficient and accurate communications with clients and promoters and to ensure all queries are answered in a timely and professional manner
- To work closely with the Director of Music to pro-actively strategise and manage the relationships with promoters, artists, agents and suppliers to ensure the effective programming of all commercial music events and achieve agreed budget figures for the commercial music programme and to maximise all income generating opportunities
- To work closely with the commercial events and scheduling teams to ensure maximum venue usage, diary time and income, with a view to reducing dark days and increasing flexibility of the usage of available spaces
- To work closely with the Producing Team to move to the delivery of events. To liaise and build relationships with all other Factory International teams (e.g. scheduling, operations, technical production, development, audiences, The Factory Academy, creative engagement) ensuring the dissemination of relevant information through Factory International processes
- In collaboration with the Producing Team to oversee all production information, regulatory requirements and all health and safety documents are submitted and approved for each event. To manage the process of drafting and developing venue hire agreements, co-promotion agreements and artist contracts
- To oversee the execution and completion of all show settlements. To provide financial support including budgeting and invoice management, updating financial reports and assisting in working to the agreed departmental budget
PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR THE MUSIC MANAGER
ESSENTIAL:
- A strong and current working knowledge of the live music industry and a comprehensive understanding across music genres. A broad network of contacts within the music sector
- Strong communication, time management and project management skills. A team player who can work effectively across departments. Ability to work calmly under pressure and to high standards
- Relevant experience encompassing music booking and promotion and demonstrate a strong experience of diary management and scheduling
- Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
- IT literacy, MS office, excel, word, teams
- Experience of setting and managing budgets
- Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
DESIRABLE:
- A working knowledge of Artifax (or similar CRM system)
- Supervisory skills and experience of managing staff
- Experience of working in a large complex arts venue
- Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent
- Enthusiasm for a range of arts and culture, an interest in ensuring arts are accessible to all
