Catalan singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Lau Noah has announced the January 12 release of her newest and most ambitious album A DOS, a genre-blurring collection of original duets with many of her friends and heroes from the worlds of roots, jazz and global music. Accompanying today’s announcement, Lau releases “Lesser Men Would Call it Love” featuring multiple Grammy-winner Chris Thile, with whom she has previously toured. The glowing single comes with a video for the song recorded live in the studio, watch here. This release follows “If A Tree Falls In Love With a River,” Lau’s duet with another multiple-Grammy winner Jacob Collier, plus collaborations with Silvia Perez Cruz and Jorge Drexler all of which will be included on A DOS. Other special guests on the album include: Shai Maestro, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Gaby Moreno, Salvador Sobral, and Angeles Toledano. Over more than a year Lau traveled to London, Barcelona, Madrid, Los Angeles, and back home to NYC to capture these remarkable collaborations. See below for a full tracklist.
Lau spoke on the album stating, ¨’A DOS’ is the bridge between song and symphony. The place where counterpointal complexity fits into the ancestral structure of a simple song. And I have some of the best storytellers of our time helping me carry out this endeavor.¨
Today also marks the first date of Lau’s tour of the United Kingdom and Europe supporting Ben Folds. Spanning a month and nearly 20 shows, the tour will bring Lau to the Royal Albert Hall among other historic stages. US performances celebrating the release of A DOS will be announced soon.
Lau Noah is heavily influenced by her Catalan upbringing, however, she developed her unique style of singing and playing guitar in counterpoint after moving to NYC. Her singular approach to music composition has earned praise from other artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and Moses Sumney (“she a genius”) plus a stunning performance at NPR’s Tiny Desk, making her the first Catalan artist ever to perform for the prestigious series. Billboard says Lau “is enchanting listeners one song at a time,” and WBGO observes “Lau Noah’s music somehow defies category while also belonging to various places and times at once.”
