Multi-Platinum BMG recording artist Lil Dicky has announced he will release his first new music in eight years with a compilation of songs and expanded music featured in the first three seasons of his acclaimed comedic television show Dave. The album marks Lil Dicky’s first full-length release since 2015 with the soundtrack’ to the series planned to be released later this year by BMG.
In an interview with Variety, Lil Dicky explained, “I realized this year, as I took a step back and looked at all the different music that’s made it into the first three seasons of the show, there’s enough here, a great body of work and a project that I can put out as a soundtrack. I think this is such a better representation of Lil Dicky the musical artist than, honestly, my first album even was.
“There are bits and pieces of songs you’ve been hearing for three seasons of Lil Dicky, the musical artist…I want to get that out to the world. It’s a really strong body of work that I’m super proud of…So that’s what I’m working on now.
“Some of my favorite songs I’ve ever made have appeared in spots during the season. I can’t keep holding on to things forever as I try to make another album. But I have so much other music that hasn’t been in the show that I’m not including on this project.”
Lil Dicky is working with longtime producer Benny Blanco to finish the songs, as well as get them ready for mixing and mastering, with Lil Dicky saying he’s looking at including between 15 and 20 tracks on the album.
Lil Dicky initially signed to BMG in 2017. His global chart-topping phenomenon ‘Freaky Friday (ft. Chris Brown)’ has surpassed more than two billion streams.
His most recent single ‘Earth’, released in collaboration with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF), with a portion of profits from the song, music video, and merchandise allocated to select nonprofits on the front lines of implementing solutions to climate change, has nearly 400m views on YouTube alone.
