The Dumes first appeared to front-woman Elodie Tomlinson as a mirage on the horizon during a shroom-fueled bike ride up the California coastline. Upon returning, she brought the vision to life, finding her counterparts in drummer Chris Dunn, bassist Liam McCormack, guitarist Peter Recine, and guitarist/keyboardist Kyle Biane. Together The Dumes burst to life, drawing inspiration from bands like Soccer Mommy, Blondie, and Courtney Barnett to create bigger-than-life rock anthems that can swing from raucous to melodic in the span of just a few minutes. It's an emotive modern rock tune just begging for radio play in a world where radio play means less and less by the day. Check it out on our Modern Rock Spotify playlist here.
Their authentic chemistry is undeniable, especially on their latest single, “Ok,” streaming everywhere now. Co-written with Jenny Owen Youngs (artist, co-writer of “High Hopes” / Panic! At The Disco) and produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, Cherry Glazerr) at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, CA, “Ok” first came to Elodie when she was trying to support someone during a tough time, but ended up becoming a much more universal anthem about perseverance––just in time for the new year ahead.
“Ok’ is the first 'love song’ I’ve ever written for a friend,” she explains. "She was going through a shitty situation and I wanted her to know that I was there for her. I wasn’t sure what to say at the time, so I just put it into a song later that day.”
Like most up-and-coming bands, this past year has presented quite the challenge for The Dumes. But their collective nervous energy added a unique urgency to the sound; the struggle to overcome is evident in each note committed to tape.
