Paramore Cancel Remainder of North American Tour

Paramore have been forced to cancel the remainder of their North America tour due to illness. 

Lead vocalist Hayley Williams has been trying to carry on with a lung infection, which forced the 'This Is Why' group to postpone four shows after the singer's body "just gave out" when she initially tried to battle through.

However, after completing two of the rescheduled concerts in San Francisco on Monday (Aug. 7) and Seattle last night (Aug. 9), which "got a little scary", the band have been forced to pull the plug on their shows at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland tonight (Aug. 10) and the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday (Aug. 13). Refunds will be available to ticket holders at their point of purchase. 

In a statement on her Instagram Stories, Williams said: "Hey everybody, we just got off stage in Seattle. After speaking with our team and my doc, I know that trying to finish this tour is now going to come at a detriment to my health.

"My lungs are just not healing quickly enough to keep up. It got a little scary tonight.

"We will have the team post an official statement ASAP but we are going to have to cancel the last 2 shows of the tour so I can finally recover. I know some of you are camping in Portland already so I just wanted to get this out there.

"I'm so sorry for all the chaos this has caused some of you. I really tried to kick this shit. Love you all."

In a subsequent official statement posted to the band's Twitter account, she wrote that she had been 'doing everything I can to fight this infection so we wouldn't have to disappoint anyone with more news of postponements and cancelations.'

She added that she was 'risking long-term damage' if she didn't immediately stop performing and take time to heal. 

Last week, the 34-year-old responded to criticism for postponing shows in order to prioritize her health. 

She wrote: "Touring is different at 34 than it was at 16, when leaving home felt like the greatest escape. Even in my 20's I benefitted from the constant movement. It was a perfect distraction from relational issues and my own mind. At this age, I have my own home life, a community, a dog, my sisters and the rest of my family who are getting older… It's quite a lot to leave behind."

Paramore played more than 30 shows in North America this year. The This Is Why tour is scheduled to resume with six performances in Australia and New Zealand starting this November.
