Today, NYC act Rebounder announces their second studio EP, Sundress Songs (out August 15) with an all new single and video “Sunset Vision”. Crisp hooks and surf-rock riffs coast atop happy-go-lucky visuals, depicting the band at their high energy live shows and other feel good NYC scenes. Led by Dylan Chenfeld and joined by his brother Noah Chenfeld and their childhood friends Zack Kantor and Cobey Arner, the native NYC group has steadily made themselves a DIY staple: playing over 60 shows in the last year and supporting everyone from MUNA and Phoenix to the How Long Gone podcast, Dayglow, Cautious Clay, and more. Previously featured in The FADER, Byline, Talkhouse, FLOOD, and others, the band’s nostalgic pop has been praised by DIY Mag for “fooling even the most hardened of hipsters into allegiance” and NME, who claimed that the band is “reviving New York’s rock andamp; roll credentials.”
Their new project, Sundress Songs — produced and mixed in part by Adam Thein of Djo — is the follow up to Rebounder’s debut EP, Subway Songs (2020), which includes the lofi “Japanese Posters”, their debut single that has since amassed over 22 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2021, the band released “Change Shapes” featuring Jesse Rutherford of The Neighborhood, and chatted about the project with Office Magazine.
Says lead singer Dylan Chenfeld on the new track: ““Sunset Vision” came from a bassline and a drumbeat, instantly we were really excited about the groove. The beat was exciting, it felt like finding a new shirt at the store, not the shirt for who you are today, but for who you wanna be. The lyrics came pretty quickly after that and it was one of the more effortless songs we’ve written together. At the time of writing, we were really into the new Jungle and Lewis Ofman records and wanted to make a sunny song for the summer that you could sing along to. Maybe we did?”
While Rebounder often recalls a lot of classic 2000s indie-pop — existing somewhere between the gritty riffs of Arctic Monkeys and the soulful grooves of Cults — Dylan Chenfeld boasts an omnivorous taste and sharp attention to detail. Ever inspired by the funk of Stevie Wonder and psychedelic rhythms of David Byrne, the EP dips into northern soul influences (“All Strings Attached”), bedroom pop (“Second Serve Ace”), and the skittish surf-rock of today’s “Sunset Vision”. Though largely a self produced and performed effort, a handful of friends appear on the credits of Sundress Songs — CT of Vampire Weekend co-wrote and played drums on “Phantom Memory”, while Jesse Rutherford contributed to backing vocals on “Crosstown Chandelier.”
Rich with production quirks, genre asides, and fellow indie stalwarts, Sundress Songs present Rebounder at their poised pop best.
