Renowned multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Roosevelt continues his 2023 winning streak with his new single “Rising”, out today via Counter Records/Ninja Tune. It’s yet another stunning preview of his new LP ‘Embrace’ (out Sept 22nd) and expertly showcases Roosevelt’s prodigious talents as both a vocalist and composer.
Whereas previous singles “Ordinary Love”, “Luna”, and “Paralyzed” drew influence from classic disco and funk, Roosevelt (the stage name of Marius Lauber) adopts a modern electronic palette on “Rising” to convey an inspiring message to the listener, delivered by Lauber’s trademark silky smooth vocal delivery. Layers of shimmering synths and driving drums surround Lauber’s vocals as he declares: “Don't keep me waiting now / cause all of the time / It feels like we're rising up.” Originally a demo that was inspired by the audio illusion of synths that are forever rising in pitch, “Rising” is a euphoric explosion of positivity, and will surely be a concert highlight on Roosevelt’s upcoming tour.

Out on September 22nd, ‘Embrace’ is Roosevelt’s most fully-realized project to date, and features deeply personal lyrics and emotive instrumentals that are effortlessly intertwined with addictive disco basslines ideal for a summertime dance party. Inspired by the realization that he no longer could relate to the static lifestyles of his childhood friends, ‘Embrace’ sounds equally intimate and expansive, and reaffirms Roosevelt’s status as one of the world’s most inventive young songwriters.
Beginning on September 21st, Roosevelt will be heading out on a headlining tour of North America, playing 35+ dates including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto and more. Pulling from his diverse catalog and inspired by his own experiences DJing, the Roosevelt live show will feature fluid transitions between songs and a three-piece backing band. Full dates below.

Roosevelt’s busy 2023 follows past high-profile collaborations with Nile Rodgers, Classixx and Washed Out, and major remixes for the likes of Taylor Swift, CHVRCHES, Glass Animals, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. His last full-length album ‘Polydans’ earned widespread acclaim from press, with Billboard saying it “balances 80s-inspired synth, disco, driving beats and cinematic textures into a musical amalgamation that simultaneously manages effervescence and heft,” with Pitchfork adding “ Lauber’s music evokes an earnest sweetness, forming crisp melodies around his smooth vocals.”
