JOB DESCRIPTION
The top-ranked Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries has a rare opening for an experienced music business professional or researcher, to teach students at the graduate and undergraduate level.
The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of and/or firsthand professional experience with key aspects of the digital music industry. Focus areas include the use of data to understand music-related consumer behaviors and trends; social media content creation and/or marketing approaches; and emerging industry technologies such as NFTs and AI.
This search is for a full-time faculty member to teach in the Bandier program at an open-rank based on qualifications. The applicant must show demonstrated abilities in one or more of the ranks offered by Syracuse University.
As an open rank position, the applicant should have demonstrated success in one or more of these areas:
TEACHING: Candidates demonstrating success as a teacher will have a track record of excellence in both classroom instruction and curricular creation.
Successful candidates will have taught previously at accredited, respected colleges or universities, and articulate their leadership when it comes to teaching philosophies and approaches, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom.
Successful candidates will also exhibit mastery of relevant subject matters ie trends and/or dynamics in the modern music business.
RESEARCH/CREATIVE: Candidates demonstrating success in the creative and/or research fields will have a proposed or current research agenda, with a track record of supporting work and publications.
The right candidates will also have a documented track record of creative or research work that demonstrates mastery of relevant subject issues, ie trends and/or dynamics in the modern music business.
INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS/PROFESSIONAL TRACK RECORD: Candidates demonstrating success through the lens of their industry connections and work will have current, active work experience in the modern music business, with a track record of professional success. The right candidate will have an extensive network of music business contacts who will augment classroom knowledge, contribute as guest speakers and generally be called on to assist the program in myriad ways.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree is preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.
- Candidates with substantial professional experience are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to teaching, tenure-track and professor of practice hires are expected to pursue creative and/or scholarly activities that position them as a well-known expert or authority in the field and bring national visibility to Newhouse. They also must conduct service on behalf of the department and school by advising students, assisting with speaker series, organizing industry trips/outreach.
