Triller is about to get a little more like TikTok, according to the New York Times. “Next week, the app is rolling out a new algorithmically curated feed meant to help creators who are building a following from scratch,” it reported, as part of a profile of the social app.

Majority owner Ryan Kavanaugh promised that “all the people who feel like they’re not getting plays or views, they will” as a result of the new feed.

The entire profile is pretty eye-opening, if we’re honest.

It suggests that the phrase ‘Triller money’ has “become a recurring joke among TikTokers in Los Angeles, the punchline being that the company will do whatever it takes to partner with the right stars”. Charli D’Amelio, TikTok’s top star, was reportedly leased a Rolls-Royce by Triller when she joined Triller in September; the company has been renting mansions in LA for creators and funding their costs (“For one recent video by a creator, the company secured a helicopter…”) and is making some grand claims.

“Let’s say a TikToker is going to make $300,000 on a deal with TikTok. They’ll probably make $2 million with us,” said Kavanaugh. One can only imagine the raised eyebrows within TikTok.
