Today, one of the UK’s hottest prospects, rising pop/alt-artist DYLAN, has returned with “The Alibi”, a glittering reintroduction with incisive lyricism that pushes her sound into the upper echelons of pop. The soundtrack to her generation’s heartbreak, the track sees the 24-year old- who was recently nominated for Rolling Stone UK's "Rising Star Award," reaches new heights of vulnerability, while boasting some of her strongest storytelling to date.
Co-written by DYLAN with Ines Dunn (Mimi Webb) andamp; Jonny Coffer (Beyoncé), “The Alibi” shifts away from the driving guitars normally associated with DYLAN, drawing focus to DYLAN’s crystalline voice placed over synths that build into an irresistibly hooky chorus. A deeply personal, yet relatable pop-anthem, the track documents the aftermath of her greatest, yet most toxic love story. That these lyrics are set to her most polished track to date, makes the song even more striking.
Dylan says, “The Alibi is my Bonnie and Clyde anthem. Except I nearly let Clyde ruin my life. For me the song was written about having to let go of a relationship that meant a lot to me - despite it not being a healthy one - and wanting to express how much that person still meant to me after. I think the hardest kind of breakup is when you still think the absolute world of someone after it's over. It's taken a year to get this song right but I knew it was special the minute we wrote the 1st version. Ten versions later, it's more of a celebration of love rather than loss.”
The release of “The Alibi” comes a week before her largest headline show to date, at London’s iconic Hammersmith Apollo on February 15 as part of her Rebel Child tour, with sold out shows across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. The show is set to be a phenomenal consolidation of everything DYLAN has been building towards in her career: a celebration of a new pop voice truly in the ascendancy.
