ARASHI, Japan’s biggest J-pop boy band, are celebrating their milestone 21st anniversary together as a group this year. To mark the anniversary, the band will release This Is 嵐, a brand new album coming on December 11—watch the video for “Party Starters” above. This exciting new album is their first ever to be released in the U.S. in full.

The band contemplated not releasing an album prior to the hiatus, but ultimately decided to move forward in creating an LP, explaining “…we wanted to create an album that would be a stepping stone for ARASHI, when looking to the future… We all hope to be able to convey that this album is not a stop, but rather a move forward. This is what current ARASHI is. This is what ‘This is 嵐’ is.”

This marks the last big project from the iconic group ahead of their impending hiatus, set to begin at the end of 2020. They will also be performing a farewell New Year’s Eve live-streamed concert event on December 31.

Pop sensation ARASHI are Japan’s biggest J-pop band, dominating the scene for over two decades and breaking records across the board. In 2019 the iconic group’s 5x20 All the Best!! 1999-2019 became the best-selling album of the year globally, putting them in the top spot over BTS and Taylor Swift. The career-spanning compilation album, which celebrated the quintet’s 20th anniversary, sold a record-breaking 3.3 million copies globally, earning the band a Guinness World Record.

Their 5x20 anniversary tour broke records as the largest scale tour in Japanese history, seeing over 2,375,000 attendees and spanning 50 shows in five dome venues. The historic J-Pop group is now taking on the U.S. audience, actively working their singles in America for the first time in their two-decade long career. ARASHI is Masaki Aiba, Jun Matsumoto, Kazunari Ninomiya, Satoshi Ohno and Sho Sakurai.

The group has seen unparalleled success, having sold over 41 million records and performed for 14 million people during the duration of their career. ARASHI—whose name means “force of a storm”—formed in September 1999 in Honolulu and released their debut single that November. In 2007, the release of hit single “Love So Sweet” gained the band commercial success by becoming the theme song of popular drama “Hana Yori Dango 2” and turning ARASHI into a household name. By their tenth anniversary in 2009, ARASHI had become one of the best-selling Japanese artists of all time. The group have released 16 studio albums and five compilation albums together and have 54 #1 singles in Japan.

Aside from massive success as a musical group, they have each individually risen to the top of the entertainment industry in a variety of categories, becoming actors, talk show hosts, and brand ambassadors for Japan Airlines, Asahi Beer and Hitachi, amongst other star turns. Their songs have also been featured regularly at sporting events, including several Olympic games.

In 2019, they became subject of the 26-episode Netflix documentary “ARASHI’S Diary -Voyage-,” giving viewers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look into their rise to fame (watch the trailer HERE). That same year, ARASHI launched social channels including YouTube, Instagram and Twitter for the first time ever, and they’ve accumulated over 353.6 million streams since releasing their music on streaming services.

ARASHI has released a number of new tracks within the last few months, including “Whenever You Call” (produced by Bruno Mars), “IN THE SUMMER” (produced by Rami), and most recently “Party Starters” (produced by Sam Hollander). “Whenever You Call” saw widespread international success, officially becoming the group’s best streaming single to date.
