Blue Highway Fest is set to make a triumphant return for its third annual bluegrass celebration from October 9-12, 2024, in the picturesque town of Big Stone Gap, Southwest Virginia. Hosted by the acclaimed contemporary bluegrass band, Blue Highway, this festival has rapidly gained recognition since its 2022 debut, even earning the prestigious International Bluegrass Music Association Industry Event of the Year Award for its inaugural event.
The 2024 festival promises an impressive lineup featuring bluegrass and Americana icons such as Del McCoury Band, Rhonda Vincent andamp; The Rage, Dan Tyminski Band, The Travelin' McCourys, along with over two dozen other top-tier performers. Live music will be performed on two stages in downtown Big Stone Gap, complemented by a range of attractions including local craft vendors, diverse food trucks offering regional delicacies, workshops for budding musicians, and open jam sessions. Visitors can also explore the town's historic landmarks, as well as its variety of brick-and-mortar shops and restaurants.
Stephen Lawson, the Town Manager of Big Stone Gap, shared his enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to welcome Blue Highway Fest back for its third year. This festival not only brings world-class music to our community but also highlights the unique charm and hospitality of our town. We look forward to another unforgettable celebration and the opportunity to share the rich culture and history of Big Stone Gap with our visitors."
A new addition for 2024 is the Rising Stars Challenge. This competition invites artists from all backgrounds to participate in a battle-of-the-bands-style contest, with the grand prize including a main stage performance at Blue Highway Fest. Eight finalists will be selected through online voting, and multiple elimination rounds will take place throughout the festival weekend. The winner will not only secure a performance slot at Blue Highway Fest but also receive a recording session at Hat Creek Recording in Jonesborough, TN, mentorship from Wayne Taylor (Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame member and founding member of Blue Highway), and a national single release by Turnberry Records. Additionally, the champion will perform at renowned venues such as The Station Inn in Nashville, TN, and The Down Home in Johnson City, TN. The deadline for online submissions is September 1, 2024, at midnight local time.
