ABOUT US
Help Musicians is a charity that loves music and for over 100 years has been working hard to make a meaningful difference to the lives of musicians across the UK. We want to create a world where musicians thrive.
A musician’s life can be precarious with ups and downs throughout a career. Opportunities must be hard-won, whilst challenges come along all too easily, with unsteady income and physical and mental health concerns common issues to navigate. In addition, training can take many years and, along with investing in instruments and other equipment, puts up financial barriers to creative progression. Help Musicians offers a broad range of help to support music creators in times of crisis and opportunity — ensuring musicians across the UK can achieve their potential and sustain a career in music.
Sadly, right now, musicians need our help more than ever with research in 2020 showing that over half believe they may need to leave the industry due to multiple career pressures. Looking ahead, the charity will invest annually in regular research to better understand the needs of musicians – designing new, targeted and preventative support to better enable musicians to build sustainable careers in the years to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team in a newly created role as Data andamp; Insights Manager. This is a pivotal role for Help Musicians. The postholder will enable us to expand our understanding of the impact Help Musicians has on the lives and careers of musicians we currently support and enable us to scale to reach those yet to benefit from our help.
Through designing and implementing data analysis and insight development approaches, you will help us to spot emerging trends and gaps in provision across our work and compare these findings with the wider music sector ‘ecosystem’. Your work will help us to provide the most effective support whilst positioning ourselves to support a world where musicians can thrive.
You’ll help to lead and enhance how we plan, monitor and use data (and data systems) in order to shape and embed a dedicated yet responsive data andamp; insights function across the organisation. Your work will enable enhanced data-driven decision making and best practice in data management. You will share your insights, informally, coaching teams to improve on their data management skills and benchmark what you find with the result of improved data quality across the charity. You will foster an internal learning culture where data is ‘everyone’s business’.
You will be responsible for the analysis of Help Musicians’ core service datasets, working with IT and other functions to ensure we monitor and report on data in the most usable and insightful ways, whilst applying your analytical and data management skills to steer internal learning. You will spot gaps in data and anticipate trends, recommending where we need to improve on data collection, monitoring, and information management. And you will give due consideration in our approach to data management in line with EDI by design, incorporated within our approach and best practices.
You will work closely with and report to the Head of Research and Insight as well as across teams including the Director of Musicians’ Services and the Executive team.
ABOUT YOU
You will need to have experience in delivering insight, research and/or analysis projects, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. A strong track record of data management, utilising CRM systems and producing reports that can support in informing business decisions is key. You will be a great communicator, able to adapt your style to suit technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working with social organisations and an understanding of impact management frameworks is required.
