Kobalt’s industry leading legal team is hiring a Los Angeles-based Senior Director, Business Affairs. Reporting into the Senior Vice President in New York, this exciting opportunity involves hands-on negotiating and drafting of our agreements and supporting the team with other legal matters.

You are a qualified attorney with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, demonstrating strong drafting and leadership skills, and who thrives in fast-paced environments. You are a responsible, detail-oriented, motivated and proactive team player and in return will have the opportunity to develop professionally and personally at a transformative and progressive music publishing company.

WHAT DOES A SENIOR DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS AFFAIRS AT KOBALT DO?

- You will draft and negotiate all types of publishing and ancillary agreements, focusing primarily on a high volume of administration proposals, agreements and amendments as well as deal summaries; communicating as needed with relevant internal departments.

- You will be the senior lawyer in the LA office, and will work closely in answering questions, providing guidance to, and reviewing the drafting of, junior members of the LA team; you may also directly manage members of the LA team.

- You will draft various other ancillary legal documents, track litigation matters and draft demand letters and other litigation correspondence.

- You will handle various company-wide initiatives (e.g. being responsible for the drafting and roll-out of new templates, potential litigation or settlement activity, etc) as and when directed by the SVP or Head of Business Affairs.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

- You have a law degree and are admitted to the NY or CA bar

- You have a minimum of six (6) years of relevant hands-on music publishing business experience in either a law firm or an in-house legal team.

- You demonstrate excellent drafting and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both BA and non-BA staff to identify, analyze and explain issues in a coherent and precise way.

- You are proactive and have a strong sense of urgency, follow-up and focus on detail; you are highly adaptable with the ability to work in a fast-paced and high-volume environment, handling multiple matters in a considered and timely way.

- You are a collaborative team player with the management skills and professionalism to model behaviour as the senior member of the LA-based BA team.

- You have proficiency/ease in working with various programs (MS Office, Salesforce, DocuSign, etc).

LA Pay Transparency Law: The range provided is for Los Angeles-based hires only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations other than Los Angeles may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. Pay range: $140,000 – $168,000
