girli today releases her brand new EP, why am i like this??. It includes previously released singles, Cheap Love, Imposter Syndrome, I Really F**ked It Up, which have so far racked up a whopping 6.5 million combined streams worldwide, plus new song, Inner Child, which girli debuted live on her recent headline tour. It went down an absolute storm live, as she had her rabid fanbase learning the words and having them sang back to her. Listen to why am i like this?? here.
Milly Toomey (AKA girli) has been on an explorative journey of self-discovery, only to conclude that she can’t be boxed in. The singer-songwriter had been questioning who she was and had put so much pressure on knowing the answer, but soon realised it’s okay to not always know. To mark this epiphany, girli wrote the music she has always wanted to release and the outcome is this accomplished, unapologetically pop-laden EP.
girli has said of Inner Child, “This song is about someone’s ego and immaturity getting in the way of you having something special. I wrote it about something I had with someone that could’ve been a relationship but didn’t end up going past the casual stage, because they needed to grow up and I was already past that. Realising that you’re this person’s therapist, instead of their lover. The frustration and the sadness when the man turns out to be just a boy.”
girli has recently announced the very exciting news that she will be joining the line up at Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown festival, at the Southbank Centre on 18th June. Having just wrapped her F**ked It Up headline tour with sold out shows in the UK, Paris, Berlin, Cologne and Amsterdam, the London-based artist has just announced a North American headline tour for September and October. Her recent headline tour kicked off with her first ever run of US headline shows, and included several sold out venues in New York, Chicago and LA, before playing showcases at SXSW. Showing no signs of slowing down, girli also supported alt-J on five of their US dates. girli will be playing a slew of festivals this summer, including Mad Cool and Secret Garden Party.
