Canadian pop artist Johnny Orlando today releases "The Ride: Part 2," out today via Universal Music Canada/Republic Records. The project’s second installment 2-song pack includes the mellow pop track “Party For Two” and the introspective “Man Like Me” with the accompanying visual.
“Party For Two” was produced by Montreal-based pop and RandB, Soran (Banx andamp; Ranx, Zach Zoya). The second track “Man Like Me” was produced by Peter Fenn (Metro Boomin, Valley) and David Schaeman (Emeline). This second collection of songs, "The Ride: Part Two," represents the universal feelings of vulnerability during heartbreak and how to explore ways to endure.
Orlando shares, “Part 2 is the false sense of control I feel when I’ve had time to pull myself out of the initial strong wave of emotions. This part is interesting because superficially I’m doing well; growing and moving on, but the reality is the exact opposite. The control I experience is a fallacy, and usually I’m completely self-destructive.” 'Man Like Me' is about self-doubt, blame, and making me the villain to justify an outcome. If I’m the problem, the inevitable endings don’t come as a surprise and I’m able to avoid painful truths about the person I once loved. ‘Party For Two’ is the other side of grief where I'm seek instant gratification, and I’m both impulsive and self-destructive. I allow myself to explore 'what-ifs' to prolong the memory of a good moment or a person. In the moment it feels good - a fantasy. But there is always a come-down.”
The Ride tells the story of love, hate, confusion, and hope presented in three parts. Orlando unveils raw emotions through lyrics about a first love, and the journey he's experienced along the way. Crafting this body of work was a cathartic experience for him while processing these significant life moments shared by his generation. Each part delves into two contracting perspectives from blissful and confident to sad and low moments, showcasing all their infinite complexities.
Orlando is currently on “The Ride Tour” across North American including a stop in Toronto, before heading over to Asia. Tickets and full list of tour dates can be found here. Stay tuned for much more from Johnny Orlando by signing up for his mailing list here.
