Sapphira Cristál cemented her already deserving place in the pop culture and drag history books with her iconic run on the most recent season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. And now she has set her sights on the music industry, today releasing her new single “Enough”.

Today’s announcement also includes a forthcoming free performance by Sapphira alongside fellow drag legend Monét X Change at NYC’s Lincoln Center on June 12. The new Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts commission, titled Soundcake, sees Monét and Sapphira making their Lincoln Center debuts and singing together for the first time. Directed by James Blaszko, it will feature the two classically trained drag icons singing live at Damrosch Park as part of the opening festivities for the Summer for the City festival—uniting the beauty of opera and the fabulosity of drag, paying homage to the queerness and gender expansion present in both. Monét and Sapphira perform operatic favorites by Mozart, Bizet and more, alongside original songs and a special live performance of “Enough”, and will be joined by fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race legend and violinist Thorgy Thor, and further supported by a flawless, begowned orchestra conducted by David Bloom. Co-written by Sapphira with Ocean Kelly (who also produced the track), Ashley Gordon and James Blaszko, “Enough” and its accompanying video are a bombastic reminder to always be your own number-one cheerleader throughout life. A shimmering slice of soulful modern disco with a major funk backbone delivered expertly by Sapphira’s vocal bravado, “Enough” is not just the first taste of what’s to come from her forthcoming debut album, but also a deeply personal reflection on an intimate mantra the drag icon holds close to her heart—a message needed nowadays more than ever.
“My mantra that I'm always repeating to myself is: I truly love and accept myself. I am not just enough; I am more than enough. This track is my way of sharing that I have found the utmost degree of self-love and self-acceptance—and that I wish the same for everyone else,” reveals Sapphira about the new song. “The world needs a lot more love, kindness and compassion, and the only way to share these things with others is to first have them for ourselves. This is my love song to myself and to everybody. I want you to know that who you are, where you are, and how you are is enough—right now.”
And the video, directed by Michael McCrary, which was filmed in Philadelphia, echoes not just the song’s beautiful message, but also Sapphira’s love for the city: “Philadelphia has been my home for the last 10 of my 15 years in drag, and this city has embraced me, nurtured me, and enabled me to grow as an artist. Philly loves a weirdo—and it is a safe place for all the freaks and geeks to explore their passions and thrive. Philly and its people have fostered the confidence that made it possible for me to become a star, and because of this, I want to show my love, support and appreciation for them as well.”
Today’s release follows the recent announcement of her forthcoming North American live show, The Cristál Ball Tour, which will kick off July 11 in Vancouver and make hotly anticipated stops in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, her beloved hometown of Philadelphia, and many more.
