More than 270 independent record shops are gearing up for the biggest celebration of the year this weekend, as Record Store Day is set to take place on Saturday 20th April. Make your way to one (or more!) of the 80+ events hosted to celebrate the day by visiting the events listing page HERE.

Hundreds of artists, including official 2024 ambassador Kate Bush, Noah Kahan, Ringo Starr, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Gabriels, The 1975 and The Flirtations have come together to shower independent shops with a series of exclusive and limited edition vinyl releases that will be available over the counter only from the morning of Saturday 20th.

Talking of this year’s campaign, ambassador Kate Bush, said: “Each year Record Store Day gathers more attention, more momentum, and attracts more people who cram into indie record stores all over the world to see what’s up. What’s new? This year, I hope you have a fantastic time at this very important event, and that you get to celebrate music that’s been specially released for you.”

Events

And in true Record Store Day fashion, music fans in every corner of the country will be able to enjoy a weekend of over 80 free events, performances, and activities.

From an all-day party at Slide Record Shop in Bedford, to a full day line-up of local music and performances at the local church hosted by Sound Knowledge in Marlborough, there really is something for everyone.

In some locations, fans will even get the chance to meet their favourite artists and take part in signing sessions including Greg Foat (Reggie’s Retro Record Store, Isle of Wight), Nia Archives (Strip Joint Records, Glasgow) and Northside (Wax and Beans, Bury).

RSD Unsigned winners, Currls, will be taking to the stage at Resident in Brighton on the day alongside Hutch and Billy Bragg for a full day of live music. Don’t forget to enter their annual charity raffle to win some goodies!

The Sound of Watford hosted by The LP Café returns with the hottest live acts Watford has to offer across seven venues from midday to midnight.

VoxBox is bringing Record Store Day back to the Edinburgh streets. From 11:30 to 17:30 there will be continuous live music from twelve artists alternating between the Antiquary and The Last Word Saloon across the road from the record shop.

To accompany all these great events, enjoy a glass of this year’s official RSD wine partner: Studio by Miraval.

BBC Radio 6 Music

During Huw Stephens’ show on Tuesday 16th April (4pm-7pm), Huw and Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers descend on Diverse Vinyl in Newport for a very special extended version of Huw’s weekly feature, Record Store Tour.

On Friday 19th April (4pm-7pm) Huw Stephens will broadcast his show live from the Tangled Parrot in Swansea. He’ll be joined by Welsh language band Adwaith for an acoustic session – including an exclusive new track – as well as musician and composer Carwyn Ellis, Jack Jones of the Swansea-based punk band Trampolene and Hue Williams of Swansea Sound.

Across the weekend of Record Store Day, 6 Music will host a three-day celebration of vinyl and records on air. On Friday 19th April, shows will be focusing on 7”s. On Saturday 20th April, presenters will play their favourite 12”s and on Sunday 21st April, programmes will be celebrating albums and album tracks.
