Slowey and The Boats are pioneers of Philadelphia’s Hawaiian jazz scene. A five-piece instrumental concern, SaTB deftly blend elements of traditional folk melodies, western swing, ballads, tangos and Hawaiian party classics – and all before you’ve finished your first Mai Tai.
The band came together in early 2012 when Stanford recruited some fellow Philadelphia musicians including David Streim andamp; Freddie Berman from the Amos Lee band to learn a selection of old steel guitar instrumentals. In addition to Stanford on the steel guitar, the quintet is currently comprised of David Streim on the Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes, Mike Hlatky on upright bass, Fred Berman on drums, and Brennen Ernst on guitar.
