Docks Konzerte Disco"The building at Spielbudenplatz 5 used to be a cinema. In 1900 it was called “Theatre for Living Photographs”. It later became Knopf’s Lichtspielhaus, and when cinemas were going through a serious crisis in the 1970s, the hall with its large gallery became Knopf’s Music Hall. 20 years ago, the big club in the heart of St. Pauli was given the name Docks. "The Docks is the damn best club in the world," the musicians from Metallica praised the temple of dance and music, which has meanwhile become an institution, after they played a phenomenal concert there in 1997. The US musicians were among the countless world stars who have taken the stage here. David Bowie played here with Tin Machine , the Red Hot Chili Peppers were guests here, as were Iggy Pop, Peter Maffay, Die Ärzte, Black Sabbath, Public Enemy, Nelly Furtado, Roxette, the Ramones, Tom Petty and Blondie. Rock history is still being written in the Docks today, because apart from the Große Freiheit 36 there is no club in Hamburg that has a capacity of around 1500 visitors."
