I Love The Basement

There I said it, The Basement is my favorite venue in Nashville

The bar at The Basement in Nashville

There are a lot of great clubs in the city of Nashville. A Lot. I mean, where do you start, The Basement East or "The Beast" as it's affectionately known, Cannery Row, City Winery, The Analog at the Hutton, The Exit/In, Acme Feed andamp; Seed, The Five Spot (LOOOVE This place), The Franklin Theatre, I could go on and on, but when I am in Nashville, my favorite haunt is a really cool little spot on 8th Street called The Basement. It really is a basement too, though you enter from parking lot level around the back as the property sits on a hill so it doesnt seem like you are entering a basement. Low ceilings, flyers plastered to every wall, bathroom mirrors so covered with stickers that you can't see an inch of your mug and a smell of something you can't quite place, and are probably glad you can't. The "Stage" is a portion of the floor blocked off by monitors and the bar has room for about three bellys max. All of that, is why I love this place. It's rock-n-roll the way it's meant to be.

The Basement books most styles of music, with a strong emphasis on Indie, Rock, Americana, Soul, Punk, Garage, etc. and is ideal for solo artists or bands with less than 6 members. Mike "Grimey" Grimes handles the booking and he is a treat to work with (and no I don't mean that sarcastically, he's a well-loved personality in Music City). He also owns The Basement's big sister, The Basement East, a rather large venue with no resemblance to any sort of basement. It got blown down by a Tornado in early 2020 and has since been rebuilt.  Anyway, If I haven't made you think about looking elsewhere and you are a small newish band with a decent following (their capacity is stated at 200, though that seems a bit of a stretch) looking to perform your craft for a mix of Nashville hipsters and good old fashioned music lovers, give Mike a shout. Below I have included some notes from the venue:

Thanks for checking out The Basement! We currently have two shows a night, an early show and a late show. If you are looking to book a show at The Basement please keep the following things in mind before you e-mail us:

1) Please have a date (or a few) in mind. Do not e-mail a press kit and say you'd like to "play sometime". Honestly, your message will be looked over or deleted. We receive an insanely high volume of e-mails and you must be prepared to snag a spot on the calendar.

2) Please include links to music.

3) If you have a lineup in mind, or acts you know would like to join the bill, please pitch the lineup. This makes our jobs significantly easier, especially if you are an out of town act!

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR MUSIC TO: https://muzooka.com/c/basement/hot

Keeping all of these things in mind, please e-mail us at thebasement615@gmail.com if you have any other questions.
