The Cat's Cradle, located less than a mile from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus in downtown Carrboro, has been the Triangle’s premier live music venue for over 40 years.
Having hosted bands as diverse as Nirvana, Public Enemy, John Mayer, Joan Baez, and Iggy Pop, the Cat’s Cradle has become a must-stop venue for premier music acts over the past several decades. With a capacity of 750 people, the Cat’s Cradle allows concert-goers a chance to see established and up-and-coming bands alike in an intimate setting. If you are a newish band, just getting your tour feet wet, but have a little bit of a following in the Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham areas of North Carolina, The Cat's Cradle has a smaller venue called "The Back Room" which holds around 200 people. Frank Heath, the owner and head booking honcho, is very personable, and more likely than not, to take your call, respond to your email etc., even if only to let you know that "The Cradle" may be a little down the line in your touring progression or artistic growth. The Cat's Cradle is an all ages venue and books most genres of music. I'm actually hard pressed to think of a genre they won't take a chance on if there is a proven following. Frank has been known also to take shows to other venues in the area when they aren't right for the Cradle.
