The internationally acclaimed Belly Up Tavern in Solano Beach CA (San Diego), is one of "those" live music venues. You know the kind, it that has seemingly always been there producing quality show after quality show to sold out crowd after sold out crowd and has no need to be known as the hip new flavor of the month. It rests firmly on its laurels with no need for hype.
The Belly Up opened in 1974 with only a couple of mics and no stage. Over the years it became a frequent stop for legends like John Lee Hooker, Etta James, and BB King. Epic performances by Curtis Mayfield, George Clinton, The Neville Brothers, and Toots and The Maytals also are a part of the club’s early legacy. Since then, many artists have stopped by on their way up the ladder, including No Doubt, Black Eyed Peas, Mumford and Sons, Childish Gambino, and many many more.
Major artists have done "underplays" at the venue in recent years, including The Killers, The Red Hot Chili Peppers (who also played the club for 200 people in 1985), Jimmy Buffet, Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, Damian Marley, and Tom Jones. And, perhaps most famously, the Rolling Stones played a private event there in 2015.
The Belly Up is a 600 capacity (SRO) 21 and over live music venue that books all styles of live music. They book both standing room only and seated shows. Connected to the Belly Up is the Wild Note Café, their neighborhood bistro-style restaurant with exciting food. Parking is free street parking at the Belly Up, and is located right on the side of the club.. Piqued your curiosity yet? Looking to play in the San Diego area? Contact the Belly Up today.
