With a name referencing Dante’s Inferno and a sound reminiscent of Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying, Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Seven Cities Dead is a Metalcore powder keg ready to explode. Their brand new single, "Courage Under Fire," features the high energy riffs, dual guitar leads, heavy breakdowns and empowering lyrics that have been the band's foundation.
The track, along with the rest of the upcoming EP Cold Blooded, was recorded at Andrew Wade’s Audio Compound (A Day To Remember, Neck Deep, Wage War) in Florida. “We believe this EP is a step up from our first EP in every aspect,” says the band, “from writing and musicianship to production and presentation! Working with Andy Karpovck (producer) really took us to the next level.”
The song is a blistering opus of true metalcore, meaning it combines actual hardcore with actual metal, not just scream/singing over breakdowns. One of the key elements of metalcore, as opposed to screamo with which it often gets confused, is that good metalcore songs display all of the best elements of both genres, including the tough grittiness of hardcore and the advanced musicianship and musicality of metal, taking the listener on a melodically pleasing journey through what can often be a minefield of topical subject matter. It's in the delivery. Seven Cities Dead have that delivery down to a science.

Seven Cities Dead has also released an accompanying music video for "Courage Under Fire." The video, which some could find disturbing, features a man revisiting his childhood home and reliving painful memories of domestic abuse. “It’s a personal story for our singer Josh,” the band explains, “his son, sister and brother in law appear as actors in the video.” The group is hopeful that the message of the song and video have an impact on their fans. “We hope to relate to people in similar situations and encourage them to find the strength to break the cycles in their own lives.”
All looking for a second chance at finding serious bandmates and growing musically, Seven Cities Dead formed and released their first EP, Siren Songs of The Apocalypse, in 2018. Establishing themselves as a not to miss live act in the Wisconsin scene over the past two years, the band is planning to tour regionally in 2021, Covid permitting.
