Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and performer Courtney Marie Andrews was recently featured on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” online series, #PlayAtHome, performing her song, “If I Told” with special guest Madison Cunningham. Check it out above.
“If I Told” is from Andrews’ acclaimed album, Old Flowers, which is nominated for Best Americana Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards. The accolade is just the latest for Andrews, who was recently acknowledged with two awards at the 2021 Americana Music Association U.K. Awards: Best International Artist and Best International Album (Old Flowers).
Produced by Andrew Sarlo (Bon Iver, Big Thief), Old Flowers was released last summer on Fat Possum Records (stream/purchase here) and features Andrews’ most vulnerable writing to date, chronicling her journey through heartbreak, loneliness and finding herself again after it all. The New York Times calls Andrews, “luminous,” while Rolling Stone heralds, “brings to mind classic Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, but Andrews’ bell-clear voice and fearless message of introspection are unmistakably her own” and The Wall Street Journal declares, “one of the most affecting and surprising singers in roots music.”
In addition to the album, Andrews’ recent cover of Simon andamp; Garfunkel’s “America,” performed with fellow artists Liz Cooper and Molly Sarlé, was recently released. Originally recorded as a contribution to Good Music to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy Vol. 2 with proceeds benefitting Voting Rights Lab, the song debuted this week at #4 on the NACC’s Folk Chart, is the #2 Most Added Track at Triple A radio and currently sits at #47 at Americana Radio.
Andrews’ debut book of poetry, Old Monarch, will be released April 6 by Andrews McMeel. More information can be found here.
