Whos Who in the Biz category interest

Former Paradigm Talent Agent Carly James has just made the move as one of the newest booking agents in the New York offices of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), according to a report in Pollstar. She is the responsible agent for Brit Award-nominated band IDLES, Fontaines D.C., Squid, Tomberlin, Mild High Club and one of our new favorites around the MusicBizHub offices, girl in red

James started off as a booking coordinator at Paradigm in 2015, a position considered to be a step between agent assistant and full-fledged agent, responsible for day-to-day routing and coordination of tours, appearances, concerts, etc for a selection of the artists represented by the agency. A booking coordinator is typically attached to a specific agent and works, more or less, as their right hand. In the entertainment and broadcasting industry, a booking coordinator is part of a post-production department, and is responsible for scheduling talent, creative, and technical personnel and services to be available for the post-production team. Prior to her tenure at Paradigm Talent Agency, Carly James spent a few years as an assistant at The Agency Group (now United Talent Agency, or UTA) beginning there in 2012.

The booking agency world has been experiencing a slew of shake-ups and moves over the past several months, as a result of mass layoffs, furloughs and resignations due to the instability in the bottom line of some of the major agencies, resulting in the creation of several new agencies including Mint Talent Agency, Arrival Artists, TBA Talent and the just formed Odyssey Touring which represents a slew of Americana music artists like Gretchen Peters, Jim Lauderdale, Chuck Mead, The Mastersons andamp; more.
