Peter The Human Boy is a Vienna, Austria based four piece who's new single This Kind of Love caught me a bit by surprise on my Spotify "Fresh Finds" playlist. The sunny soCal inspired dream-pop seems to have a little more in common with 70s era yacht rock love songs, the type that lull you off to dreamland while sitting in the dentist chair or on some Florida keys patio, than with the likes of Tame Impala and Mac Demarco, who they count among their greatest influences. That's not a bad thing. Retro 70s is a bit in vogue these days and there is a damn good reason that artists like 10cc, The Beach Boys, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop, The Bee Gees etc can still pack 'em in.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not a retro song, but there are definite hints of that vibe going on here and it's what ultimately makes the song stand out from a lot of the dream-pop that is currently emanating from headphones these days. That said, it would sound really good with a little of that vinyl crackle in the background, but I digress.

One of the best things about Spotify playlists like "Fresh Finds" is that when you find the occasional gem, it can lead you down a rabbit hole of discovery, something that was difficult back in the analog age. I found myself sliding down that hole on this sunny Texas afternoon. It was a journey of exploration of Peter The Human Boy's 2019 album "Goodbye Summer" as well as one of his other singles, a fun little ditty called "Slow For You". The songs all had the same vibe that I found so appealing on "This Kind of Love" but also incorporated some really cool jazzy surf style instrumentation that provided an element of cool that just wrapped the whole journey up in a nice plaid bow.

Definitely looking forward to more of Peter The Human Boy. Check em out  on Spotify or wherever you get your music.
